description This article proposes an ethnocritical reading of Assia Djebar’s novel "Ombre Sultane", through exposing the contribution of this theory to the study of ritual chronotopes and cultural logics, which shape her novel. These ritual logics as well as the anthropological mixtures articulated around the rite of marriage, and the symbols associated with it are mirrored and reflected in the novel by unveiling the difficult border crossings faced by the liminal character of Isma, and they constitute the nodal point of the narrative process.
