Summary:The article addresses the use of an assessment model for Barriers and Facilitators to innovation (BFI), which was applied to 48 managers at Nutrimental S/A, and the analysis of its positive and negative implications that affected company competitiveness. The variables under study are: a) strategy definition; b) human resources and behavior; and c) technological management. The exploratorydescriptive case was conducive for assessing innovation barriers and facilitators after breakthrough organization ensuing from the “lunch box crisis” that occurred in the institutional market (in the 90s). Findings led to the company implementing the organization restructuring, taking a new stand related to product innovation, creating added value to stakeholders involved and making best use of employees’ creativity in terms of innovation.
