description The November 2021 elections in Honduras are shaking up the country’s political game, now that the Liberty and Refoundation Party (LIBRE) has triumphed in the person of Xiomara Castro, wife of former president Manuel Zelaya (2006-2009), thus dethroning the two-party rule that has governed the country for a century under the banner of the Liberal and National parties. LIBRE lays the foundations for a political and economic programme that claims socialism in Honduras. The stakes are high for Castro, who will be confronted with a network of corrupt and inefficient institutions but also with a national economy structured according to the very liberal prerogatives under the presidency of Juan Orlando Hernandez.
