description « This Woman’s Work », written and composed by Kate Bush for the American movie She’s Having a Baby by John Hughes, which premiered in 1988, depicts the anguish of a man in the waiting room of a maternity ward. Later included in the album The Sensual World, the song was notably used in the TV show The Handmaid’s Tale, adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel and in the feminist sci-fi show Le Parasite, performed on April 15, 2022 at the Université Jean Jaurès. Those dystopic tales seem at first quite remote from the romantic comedy for which the song was initially written. By analyzing different scenes – both cinematographic and theatrical – associated with the song, we will show that new tales can emerge from those seemingly disharmonious associations.
