description | The Soviet newspapers in the Stalinist USSR are not simple instruments, designated to enhance the campaigns of the power. Far from the first pages, one can also find a place for the denunciation of some of the problems of the country. These articles of journalists or these published letters of readers have a common point: their denouncing tone. The vocabulary is often violent and accusing. These texts point, most of the time, personal responsability to explain the dysfunction, denunciation thus being made very often denouncement. This staging of the expression of dissatisfaction does not leave the population passive. Starting in the Twenties, Soviet citizens are prompted to write in the newspapers then to write to the newspapers. These letters, extremely numerous, take the shape popularized by the Power: The Soviet people, subjected to an intense propaganda, but also, preoccupied with effectiveness, thus uses the words of the Power to say their anger. The Power brings only partial responses to these letters without really trying to be effective. The diversion of dissatisfaction towards individuals, leaving the political power within a shelter, sounds its first goal. |
