description | Intertextuality in works of Marina Zwetajewa and Michal Vrubel
The paper shows the correlation between Marina Tsvetaeva’s poetry and Mikhail Vrubel’s paintings. The common motifs of both artists’ works, biblical as well as those referring to the canon, allow to indicate a relationship between poetry and painting, so fascinating to the comparative study. The self-portrait character of their works is a very important factor in the analysis of relationships between Tsvetaeva’s poetry and Vrubel’s painting. Their biographies share the same lack of attachment to artistic trends, communities and societies of that time, as well as any other forms of social life, even if they were members of some of them. Vrubel and Tsvetaeva are independent, lonely and sensitive artists. Comparative study of their works uncovers the unusual mark their biographies left on quality and meaning of their works. The author of this paper mentions, i.a. motif of the devil, demon common for both artists as well as their interest in Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy. Marina Tsvetaeva and Mikhail Vrubel created dynamic, vibrant works that touched upon the most important questions of human existence. The paper emphasizes how in search of truth and sense of life they translated their inner, lonely ‘super-human’ struggle with their own existence into the code of words (Tsvetaeva) and images (Vrubel). It also points out that both authors leave the receiver without definite answers, inviting him to venture into the depths of memory, soul and self. |
