description The article regards plays as constituents of theatrical discourse. It dwells on the semantic as well as pragmatic potential of theatrical texts resulting in cohesion and correlation of elements within a play that function as addresser addresser in various addressing patterns. The certain dual nature of theatrical texts is revealed in metatextual components that are tackled in correlation with the character text. The latter stands for the plot that is grasped by the audience, while metatexts are directed at professional readers that form a discourse be expert community and comprise a director being the first to receive the information sent by the playwright together with the theatre company transferring the message to the audience. A certain typology of metatexts is directed at a professional reader engaged in interpreting the text.
