Summary: | Self-purification is the ability of the water bodies have to
recover naturally, i.e. without intervention, after receiving some type
of organic load, but this capacity is limited and influenced by a few
factors. So, this research aims to study the self-purification capacity of
Limoeiro Stream (class 4), located in the city of Presidente Prudente -
SP, after the introduction of a source of pollution, which in this case is
the release of treated effluent. The mathematical modeling used is the
Streeter & Phelps (1925), which depends on the quantification of
limnological and hydrological variables, which was held in 5 sections.
The results showed that the stream has capacity to support the
treated sewage which it receives, that is, it can recover gradually its
earlier features the introduction of the organic load.
