Summary: | The paper analyses the two most widely circulated editions of the Bible in Croatia from the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, representing two revisions of the Karadžić-Daničić translation: Šulek’s revision of Karadžić’s translation of the New Testament and of Daničić’s translation of the Psalms (first edition 1877) as well as Rešetar’s revision of the complete Karadžić-Daničić translation of the Bible (first edition 1895). The editions are contextualised in the long tradition of Bible translation in Croatia, with special emphasis given to the influence they have had on the development of the Croatian standard language. |
