Summary:Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has shown potential in treating skin diseases and chronic wounds, reducing tumor-cell viability and stimulating stem-cell proliferation. CAP triggers responses in tumor cells, causing epigenetic changes in DNA methylation levels and histone modification, and altering the expression and activity of non-coding RNAs, affecting cell regulatory functions. This article discusses the impact of CAP on epigenetic changes, non-coding RNA expression, and DNA damage, and its synergy with conventional pharmaceuticals. Cancer remains a devastating disease, prompting new research in oncology. Clarifying tumor types sensitive to CAP, experimental models, administration strategies, and mechanisms of its anticancer effects is crucial to accelerate its clinical use and foster plasma oncology.
