description This work is imagined like a simplified guide for the correct use of articles in writing economic texts in English. The articles in English language (indefinite a/an, definite the, ø or zero article as well as the unstressed some) represent a big problem to speakers of other languages. We use the article a/an to show that we are dealing with any thing, not with the definite thing. The basic function of the definite article the is to signal the definiteness. The choice of articles depends on whether the noun is common or proper, countable or uncountable, definite or indefinite and whether it has specific or generic reference. The most important thing for the correct choice is to understand the meaning of articles as the criteria for their use. Reading economic texts in English demands special attention paid to articles to make acquaintance with particularities of economic texts regarding the use of articles.
