Summary: | In France, teachers’ presence in hospital results from a long-time collaboration between Education Ministry and Health Ministry, in which local hospital department heads played a major role – especially in the case of Lyon’s medical philanthropy. In the face of practitioners’ authority, however, teachers – professionals as well as volunteers – still have to justify, to this day, the legitimacy of their intervention. But this cannot be seen as a deprofessionalization process: the imperative of school continuity requires an “organizational requalification” of teacher expertise. |
