population was observed. The migration process was an
important factor in the creation of this situation. The ethno-demographic composition in Bessarabia at the end of
the XIX – beginning of the XX century, changed during
the First World War and, to a much greater extent, during
the Civil War. The unification of Bessarabia with Romania
in 1918 had influenced on both the number and the ethnic composition of the population of Bessarabia. During
this period, the Russian elite was removed from many key
positions in the social and economic life, which led to an
internal migration from cities to rural areas in Bessarabia.
The political events (in the pre-war, war and post-war periods), as well as the post-war economic problems played
an important role in the emigration of ethnic minorities
from Bessarabia. |
