Summary:The notion of the „Learning Region” refers to the question whether „life long learning” could foster regional development. This is, however, seldom acknowledged in recent literature. Hence, the presented paper summarises different arguments that could he put forward to prove how important adult education is for the Performance of regions. Consequently, the „Learning Region” will beneflt from adult education as well, because the latter is not only a means for the distribution of knowledge but does also help to create a capacity for learning on the regional level.
