Summary:Milan Begović is the author of almost two hundred theatrical-critical texts and different theatrical retrospections, polemics, portraits of theater artists and theatrological articles and this, so far less known part of rich creative opus of Milan Begović, in the same time undoubtedly represents prominent drama writer as unavoidable and distinctive person in the frame of Croatian theatrical critics of the first half of the 20th century. As a prominent writer and experienced man as far as home literature circumstances are concerned and especially as a dramatist and excellent connoisseur of European drama movements, in his newspapers critics Begović talked about many our dramatists and theater achievements and gave them meaningful and completely correct assessments. Begović systematically followed theater life in all the areas he spent some time – in Split, Zadar, Vienna, Hamburg and especially Zagreb – regularly writing critics of theater shows he watched. His numerous theatrical-critical texts which speak about a writer’s critical relation to theater happenings were published in many Croatian newspapers and magazines in the period from 1904 to 1940 i.e. in the period of 4 decades. Besides Croatian periodicals, Begović was writing about theater people and happenings, especially Croatian ones, in German, Austrian, Italian and Serbian magazines and newspapers and contributed to knowing of theater art outside the national borders.
