Description
Summary:After a short-lived »ban«, the Quaternary has again been formalized as a chronostratigraphic unit, consisting of the Pleistocene and the Holocene. The exact base and the GSSP (Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point) are yet to be formally recognized by the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences), however it is expected that the Quaternary (and the Pleistocene) commencing at 2.58 Ma b.p. will be accepted and that the Plistoicene/Holocene boundary will remain at 11.700 years b.p.
