The research question is “do Grice’s maxims of quantity, quality, relation, and manner exist?” To answer this question correctly, this article collects researchers’ writings and analyzes in contents by referring to what Grice wrote. The analysis shows that researchers confuse what Grice calls categories with what he calls maxims. |
