Тойм: | Argentina’s military dictatorship in the 1970s took a stance – based upon the doctrine of national security – aiming at eliminating “subversive” political enemies. In late 1978, when the most violent phase of repression had ended, the military started condemning an “Anti-Argentinean campaign headed by the leaders of international subversion – i.e. Argentinean exiles. From that point in time, political exiles were denounced by the military as being the acting agents of international Argentinean subversion and were considered as “evil outcasts. Thus, exiles became the “Negative Other, in the same way the “guerillos" had been denounced in the early days of repression. This image surrounding the exiles subsisted after they returned to Argentina: they suffered from stigmatization due to their emigration and their own identity and self-image has been modeled by these negative representations. |
