Description
Summary:This study reviews the standards focused on the behavior of a simple W-type road safety railing, together with a test that simulates the side impact of a vehicle against the railing and a crash simulation in software similar to the test; taking into consideration the data on mass, speed, and angle of impact of the vehicle in a crash based on the UNE EN 1317-2011 Standard. The configuration of the test specimen had specific dimensions according to the Ecuadorian Standard NTE INEN 2473-2013. The test data were obtained through strain gauges, and visually. At the end of the work, simulation and impact test results were obtained, which showed that a light vehicle in the specified conditions can be redirected by a simple W-type safety rail and can avoid catastrophic accidents considering the limits mentioned in the work.
