A comparative study on the corrosion performance of four FeCrAl alloys with different Cr contents in contact with oxygen-saturated LBE

The corrosion behavior of a series of FeCrAl alloys with four Cr contents was investigated in static oxygen-saturated liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) at 600 °C for 720 h. The oxidation layer had a triple-layered structure composed of an external magnetite layer, a middle Fe–Cr spinel layer, and a...

Description
Summary:The corrosion behavior of a series of FeCrAl alloys with four Cr contents was investigated in static oxygen-saturated liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) at 600 °C for 720 h. The oxidation layer had a triple-layered structure composed of an external magnetite layer, a middle Fe–Cr spinel layer, and an inner oxide zone. Characterization of the FeCrAl alloys after corrosion in the static liquid LBE showed that the corrosion behavior was dependent on the Cr content. The corrosion appearances and mechanisms were studied, and the oxygen diffusion processes that may have occurred during corrosion were discussed.
