IMPREGNATION PROPERTIES OF SCOTS PINE, BEECH, SPRUCE AND ALDER WOOD BY SOME CHEMICALS

description Retentions of preservative chemicals based on even dry weight of wood specimens of scots pine, beech, spruce and alder tree species were determined at the same levels of impregnation parameters according to ASTM D 1413-76. Results indicated that commercial organic solvent based Vacsol was given the highest retention level in spruce wood whereas other treated chemicals were of lowest levels. Styrene+methylmethacrylate (70: 30, v: v) and izosyanate were also given the equilibrium retention levels with other specimens of three wood species. However, spruce wood had retentions at the lowest levels with other treated chemicals. Highest retentions were obtained with the wood specimens of a alder tree followed by beech and scots pine woods in general.
