Description
Summary:Brazil is a country with huge geodiversity, which ensures it a distinguished position in the international mineral sector. Within this vast heritage, some rocks, besides being sources of various types of ores, are suitable for use as fertilizers. This new technological route, known as stonemeal technology, establishes that some rocks, which are rich in macro and micronutrients, can become agricultural inputs capable of increasing fertility levels, improving the production and nutritional quality of food, as well as reducing costs. This work has the objective of presenting the benefits of the use of basaltic rocks (rich in Ca+2, Mg+2 and, eventually, K), available especially in the southern region. To ratify this possibility, secondary data were used. Such data come from a research that agronomically tested a type of basalt that occurs in the municipality of Estância Velha (RS). The geochemical conformation of these rocks and the agronomic results indicate a great potential for basalts to alter soil fertility.
