This study was performed to compare the effects of alendronate and calcitonin treatment in male OP osteoporosis. Thirty men with osteoporosis were enrolled in this study. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured at the proximal femur and lumbar spine by using dual-photon absorptiometry. Thirty men with osteoporosis were randomly divided into two groups. BMD was measured twice as before the treatment and one year later. The end of the treatment a significant improvement was found in the BMD levels of the lomber spine in both groups (p<0.001). There was no significant difference of BMD at the proximal femur when the groups were compared with each other (p>0.05). There was no significant difference of BMD levels of proximal femur when the results were compared either within the groups or between two groups (p>0.05). |
