description INTRODUCTION: Between January 2012 and June 2012,50 patients who admitted to Internal Medicine outpatient clinic and whose gallbladder stones detected were included in this retrospective study. METHODS: Patient's demographic, anthropometric and laboratory data were recorded. Patients who examined with upper abdominal ultrasonography by Radiology specialist in order to determine the presence of cholelitiasis were selected. Patients fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels were measured. Arterial blood pressure levels were measured with standart sphingomanometry for diagnosis of hypertension and patients were questioned whether they have taken antihypertensive treatment before. Patients' waist circumferences were measured. Presence of DM and treatment history for DM were asked and noted RESULTS: 60 percent (n=30) of patients had hypertension. 18 percent(n=9) of all male patients' waist circumferences were over 94 cms and 72 percent(n=41) of female patients' waist circumferences were over 80 cms.Patients whose triglyceride levels were over 150mg/dl were 48 percent(n=24) of total.Patients whose fasting blood glucose were over 100 mg/dL were 64 percent(n=32) of total.Waist circumference size was found to be mostly correlated with triglycerides level and age.The correlation between waist circumference, fasting blood glucose and hypertension were found to be lower, and waist circumference was not correlated with the level of HDL DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In our study,an increased incidence of gallstones in patients with metabolic syndrome compared to the normal population has been revealed. However, compared with the previous studies patients male/female ratio there was an increase in our study we think this is caused by sample is small and is not community-based
