Summary: | Metropolitan strategy in Archipelago economy: a Montreal view "Questioning the traditional approaches of regional development such the core-periphery analysis or the urban-rural territorial conception brings us to replace the development problem in the context of metropolitanization. This context is related with the informational society and the archipelago society, as territorial bases of globalization. In this context, we reconsider the metropolitan problem, referring to the case of the city of Montreal and the province of Quebec. In this context, is it appropriate to continue to see the metropolis and the regions as opponents? The paper assumes that it is necessary to rethink the concept of metropolis, to see it as a reality much larger than the city. It is suggested to see the metropolis as a reticular and inclusive level of social and economic regulation, that includes the city of Montreal as well as the others citiesof the province. |
