Summary: | Th e article reveals several aspects of the evolution of the panpipe performing art in the Republic of Moldova: on the one hand, they are closely related to the emergence and development of panpipe classes at the musical institutions of secondary and
higher education in the republic (which appeared in the 1970s) and, on the other hand, the process was marked by the appearance of well known performers. Th is instrument with ancient origins was „rediscovered” in the second half of the twentieth century. Today the panpipe is a solo instrument with a very rich sonority, with an unmistakable timbre and advanced technical possibilities, in the Romanian space being included in the composition of traditional music bands and folklore orchestras, at the same time asserting itself as a solo instrument in most various genres of music. Th is success was prepared and conditioned both by the contribution of the panpipe builders, who substantially perfected the technical side of the instrument, and the panpipe teachers who laid the foundations of its study in specialized musical education.
