description The article analyses the interaction between the ANE environment and Israelite culture. Four types of relations are addressed: rejection or prohibition, neutrality, acceptance and assimilation. Different areas of life and worldview reflected in the biblical text are discussed and evaluated. The socio-religious profile of Israel was divided in five categories: (1) maternity, birth and fertility, (2) death, funerary customs and mourning rites,(3) marriage, family and sexuality, (4) food, drinks and alimentary codes, and (5) arts, music, painting and architecture. The conclusions synthetize the implications and challenges of these modalities of interaction for the Adventist church, as well as for the world today.
