Description
Summary:The article reveals that ever since the late 1990s, French public authorities’ attempts to reduce the country’s Social Security deficit by promoting generic drugs helped transform the pharmaceutical industry’s productive models From low-price products to low-cost production, the focus here is on the way in which the low cost paradigm affected the attributes of drugs that have been simplified as far as possible. Analysis is also offered of the ensuing work organization modes, employment conditions and general processes based on the situation found in a plant belonging to a group that produces generic products. The papers ends with a reflection on the advent of low cost economics in a market that is historically highly regulated and protected.
