Summary: | The difficult task to supersede the authoritarian logic of the military regime which was present in many spheres of social life is widely discussed by Raymundo Faoro throughout the 1980s. In this article, his texts published weekly in the magazine Isto É in the first semester of 1981, will be discussed. Amongst his most emphasized themes, there were those which recorded articulations of the ruling sectors aiming to control the political transition process. The actions put into practice by the ruling sectors in the first years of General João Baptista Figueiredo's government (1979-1985) made evident the defining features of a political practice that was essentially determined to maintain the transition within the limits that were being delineated since 1973, that is, since the political easing of tension started in Geisel's government period (1973-1979).
