Description
Summary:Following on from perspectives understanding the investigative relationship as a social relationship, the article focuses, in typological terms, on a dual issue in the construction of the ethnographic field: the legitimacy of research, on the one hand and the researcher’s, on the other. Based on a survey of foreign and immigrant cancer patients, the article shows how the negotiation of these two forms of legitimacy sheds light on the structural universes and meanings that go into providing care. The issues at stake in the legitimacy of research and the researcher are also at play as revealers of the politicisation of the intimate, from the most micro-level (recounting a lived experience) to the most macro level, at the intersection of health and migration policies.
