Description
Summary:This research constitutes the result of the cuban participation in the Proyect "World map of active faults" within the International Litospheric Program. On the basis of the experience about cuban relief, the classification of the geomorphological elements in excluded, primary and secondary ones to identify active faults was proposed, as well as the local approach was used to determine their activity. The more characteristic cuban relief features arc: main active structures arc in relation with faults but not with foldings, existence of four temporary fault fields, predominance of vertical upon horizontal movements, association among active faults and seismic zones and complicated differentiation of the pleistocene and holocene tectonic activity.
