Description
Summary:In the dossier of inscriptions from Lepcis Magna, the work of the governor Laenatius Romulus between 324 and 326 commands attention. In addition to a traditional eulogy of the virtues of a governor, the epigraphic evidence reveals his role as someone who ordered ‘great works’. The choices of vocabulary (allusion to its prouisiones, to the imperial clementia, to the exhortatory function that the latter plays) are indicative of imperial interventions in which the governor was the agent.
