Summary: | A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Angiology and Vascular Surgery of the Arnaldo Milian Castro Provincial University Hospital during the period from December 2007 to December 2011. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of sclerotherapy with foam in patients with varicose disease. A total of 334 patients participated in the study, and preventive actions were carried out. It turned out that most patients were females (96.1%) and the predominant age group was between 40-49 years. Hypertension was the more frequent associated disease (19.7%). The predominant risk factors were sex, age, pregnancy, being standing and musculoskeletal disorders. It is concluded that the effectiveness of foam sclerotherapy was demonstrated by the good progress shown by the patients (98.8%). Complications occurred only in 3% of patients.
