description Through the study of various archive documents, this work reconstructs the colonial history of the archaeological site of Choquequirao. This site, which first formed part of a Hernando Pizarro’s holding, was reduced together with the old villages of Sayhuite and Urcp to the locality of Cachora at the end of the 16th century. This article also shows that during more than 80 years, the Spaniards conceded the office of cacique of these villages to the same families. These new data concerning the history of Choquequirao bring to raise new questions for archaeology.
