description Who would not have liked to obtain the same privilege of the one given to Odysseus by the Goods? What does it mean to us as human beings undertaking a journey to the underworld? The answer to these questions is given by the myth that inspires an immersion into our emotions, going beyond the apparently insuperable borders of our consciousness. The aim of Calasso’s narratives is to make the readers get over their loneliness, in order to see themselves in the mythological story and its grieving characters. In this way, a connection is established between the reader’s and the character’s inner feelings. Calasso acknowledges the process of psychologization of the myth that represents the key to comprehend the most obscure sides of the underworld belonging to Ulysses, Aeneas, Achille and the entire human race.
