Summary: | The present paper focuses on the analysis of tensile stresses perpendicular to the grain in simply supported double-tapered beams made of glued laminated timber. Two approaches are compared: a code design verification method and a finite element method (FEM) in terms of the linear theory of elasticity with plane stress assumption. The values and distributions of the analysed stresses are determined, depending on the apex height and orthotropic properties of wood. |
