description The research aimed to identify the characteristics of the members of the researched water users' associations, understand their action plans and explore their social, economic, and environmental development roles. Additionally, the study aimed to identify the developmental activities undertaken by these members and highlight the significant obstacles they face in their role as water users' association members, along with their proposed solutions. The comprehensive research covered a total of 202 members of water users' associations in the Abnob and Al-fath centres in Asyut Governorate. Data collection involved personal interviews with questionnaires and were conducted from January 1, 2023, to February 31, 2023. The data analysis included statistical methods such as frequencies and percentages. Key research findings include: 59% of respondents stated that association members were elected. 90% of respondents reported no conflicts regarding Irrigation scheduling. 68% of respondents successfully resolved disputes among farmers. 93% of the respondents, participate in determining irrigation prices, and 29% believe that the pricing is appropriate. 81% of respondents are involved in weed removal activities. 78% of respondents provided suggestions for optimizing water usage. 63% of respondents considered the association president crucial in problem-solving. 39% of respondents collect funds based on breakdowns. The main internal obstacle, with 50% of the respondents citing difficulties in collecting irrigation fees, operator salary, and maintenance costs. The main external obstacle was the high cost of spare parts and difficulty in obtaining them, as reported by 89% of the respondents. The research provided six recommendations based on the findings.
