Description
Summary:The influence of temperature on the volume change of loose, saturated sand was assessed through a series of temperature-controlled hollow-cylinder triaxial tests. The sand specimens were isotropically compressed and unloaded to induce an overconsolidation effect, then subjected to drained heating. During drained heating, water was expelled from the sand specimens and the thermally-induced axial and volumetric strains were negative, reflecting isotropic expansion.
