The analysis indicates that although the psalm does not have a symmetrical or regular structure, it does show a definite cohesion and can he divided into a few stanzas, namely verses 2-3, 4, 5-8, 9-11, and 12-13. To be in the presence of the Yahweh, is the psalm's central theme. The chief function is to express the psalmist's longing for the temple and the presence of the lord. However, a text-immanent reading does not resolve the questions as regard's the psalm's historical or cultic Sitz.
