| Summary: | In the law governing the Danish University Colleges it is laid down that research shall be closely related to the forms of professional practice that the Colleges prepare students for. The paper discusses the concept of practice and the relationship between theory and practice in general and argues that the demand that research must be closely related to practice must be accompanied by an emphasis on the right and duty of researchers to freedom of research or a certain distance from current practice if the research shall be beneficial for those who are subjects to professional practice.
