Description
Summary:In the pathology of the shoulder, scapulo-humeral periarthritis occupies a special place due to the problems it poses, leading to rather disabling joint stiffness from a functional point of view. Neuro-proprioceptive taping is a relatively new method used in functional rehabilitation, which consists in applying elastic-adhesive tapes (kinesiological tapes) of different colors on the skin in order to reduce pain, improve proprioception or optimize muscle activity. In conducting this study we started from the hypothesis that the application of neuro-proprioceptive taping, along with other specific rehabilitation procedures of the shoulder with scapulo-humeral periarthritis, can significantly contribute to reducing pain, increasing mobility, muscle strength and flexibility of the scapular girdle. The presence of pain, especially in acute periods of scapulo-humeral periarthritis, causes a reduction in joint mobilization, which is why the pain and inflammatory process reduction in this phase are particularly important. The use of neuro-proprioceptive taping contributes significantly to the reduction of pain, because it provides good stability in the shoulder, the patient perceives additional protection and thus gains confidence and courage to perform more extensive movements. Neuro-proprioceptive taping together with standard rehabilitation protocols reduces pain, increases joint mobility, muscle strength and flexibility of the scapular girdle, thus helping to minimize the functional imbalance generated by this pathology and furthermore to increase the quality of life of patients with scapulo-humeral periarthritis.
