Description
Summary:Gmelina arborea Roxb. it is one of the most widely used species in reforestation projects. It is commonly propagated by seeds and cuttings. Besides, it has been micropropagated in semisolid culture medium. The use of Temporary Immersion Systems (TIS) could help to increase multiplication coefficients. The aim of this paper was to in vitro multiply of G. arborea in TIS. Five explants per 100 ml of culture medium and one immersion per day for a period of one minute were used in each TIS. The complete cycle consisted of 30 days. As a control, the same numbers of explants were established in a semi-solid culture medium with similar bottles of TIS. Results indicated an increase in the multiplication coefficient (5.01), a greater length (1.49 cm) and vigor in sprouts grown in TIS compared with control. It was demonstrated the utility of TIS for the in vitro culture of this tree species. Keywords: automation, in vitro culture forest species, multiplication coefficient
