description Cornelia SCHWEPPE's anthology provides us with a map for finding a way through the various discussions and methods of research concerning social pedagogy, keeping in mind the chasm that exists between the actual conception of social pedagogy that exists in higher education, i.e., at universities and universities of applied sciences (formerly known as polytechnics). The book is by no means a systematic documentation of the subject but, rather, is divided up between topics concerning theory and those regarding methodology. The central question is: How do social researchers in all of their different areas of specialization view the essence of their work? The wide spectrum of approaches to social pedagogy is, likewise, a theoretical issue since this plethora is an indicator of the lack of interdisciplinary understanding of the subject. We can thank the author for triggering discussions amongst the various professionals and researchers in the field of social pedagogy and for demonstrating that communication is possible between the various parties concerned.
