description This article centres on the field of educational research in tertiary education; its objective is to optimise the teaching and learning process. Its innovation consists of applying intralinguistic subtitling of videos as a teaching tool in the classroom of languages for specific purposes. After 3 years testing and improving the process, we came up with a pioneering methodological design to approach the study of English/Spanish as a foreign language while contributing to the development of transversal competences. Specifically, we focus on making listening and vocabulary learning much more attractive to our students and enhancing significant learning through peer feedback. The activity developed involves students as authors of subtitling authentic videos in pair work with the tool SubtitleWorkshop. The students' opinions in the questionnaire show their motivation and satisfaction with the activity. Moreover, the key competences, teamwork skills and leadership, are enhanced through this learning activity. On the whole, this study highlights the learning potential of active subtitling technology in courses of languages for specific purposes of students who have been learning these foreign languages for a long time.
