description "Collective mentality" has placed hysteria from a gender perspective as a "pathological subject", showing a naturalize discourse -built from the margins of medicalization-, which has constitute gender, moral, psychological and biological models. In this paper, we analyze several cases published at the Revista Médica de Chile between 1873 and 1893, such as the case of Sebastian Leon and those of the clinic of Dr. Orrego Luco. We also analyze the famous case of Carmen Marín known as "la endemoniada de Santiago”. To access to a more comprehensive analysis we consider the text of the cutting board Argentine physician José Ingenieros “Hysterical Accidents” in order to determine the process of constitution of a female imaginary disease in the late nineteenth century. Finally we propose an approach to female identity formation in the field of racial and national discourses.
