description Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a highly effective therapeutic procedure for treating recurrent Clostridium difficile infection. However, the effectiveness of the FMT for the treatment of other chronic diseases associated with intestinal dysbiosis, until recently, remained very low and very variable. A number of studies conducted in recent years have suggested that the success of the FMT is largely dependent on the microbial diversity and composition of the donor stool, which has led to the concept of the existence of FMT superdonors, which are considered individuals whose FMT is accompanied by a high efficiency. The review presents some of the results of the FMT with the involvement of superdonors, describes the possible mechanisms and factors affecting the success of the FMT. It is concluded that the high diversity of the gut microbiota, especially in the donor, seems to be the best predictor of the patient’s response to the FMT. It is assumed that the identification and subsequent characterization of superdonor intestinal microbiomes will improve our understanding of the microbial component of chronic diseases and will allow the use of the FMT in a more targeted manner in the future.
