description | This study is based on a narrative tour of the Inquisition, the setting of two novels written in the 19th century (El inquisidor mayor, by Manuel Bil- bao, and Memorias de un impostor, by Vicente Riva Palacio) in relation to the is- sue of Independence. This issue is anticipated through stories from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as from documents from the archives of the Inquisition regarding the pro-independence ideas of some prisoners. The ideological ex- pansion consists of accommodation, modification, and even anachronistic dis- tortion in the narrative strategy which reinvents history. |
