Description
Summary:The article deals with the study of verbal and non-verbal communication based on works by Allan Pease. The final aim of the work is to define types and interaction between verbal and non-verbal means of communication in “Body Language” and “Signals” by A. Pease. The polycode character of the given texts determines abundance of pictographic means – figures, schemes and tables. They only visualize the verbal information concerning description of a certain gesture or posture, the rest of the information – aim of the gesture, its function, examples of its usage in real life and practical advice – is presented with the help of verbal means of communication. The most recurrent stylistic devices have been singled out. They are employed by the author to grab the reader’s attention. They are metaphor, epithet, parallelism, antithesis, hyperbole, climax.
