description With globalization, port equipments are modernizing and specializing. Major territorial transformations take place and new joints between the actors of the city/port help to compete and win market shares. Within a global market, where major Chinese ports are in the best ranks, the European Northern Range remains significant. Rotterdam is still the 3rd port in the world and maintains its primacy in Europe. However, the French ports, and particularly Dunkirk (3rd port of the country), are left behind. Is this decline due to de-industrialization, poor logistical equipment or a question of governance? It seems that the future of French ports relies on a better productive organization. This is the reason why logistics will be considered here as a major issue towards improving management of both territories and trade.
