Description
Summary:This article approaches the relationships to autonomy and expressivity of workers in “cultural and creative industries” (freelance journalists and film editors), based on investigations carried out, respectively, in Paris and Lima. At a distance from recent works which consider that the aspiration to autonomy is in keeping with the neoliberal productive model, it first tries to understand the resources and, in the broader sense, the economy of this type of work. Thus, among the two groups studied, the article explores the originality of the conditions of production and their relations to values, familiarities, recognition and, finally, their effects on the work process. If it shows convergences between ways of working and types of lives in Lima and Paris, it also formulates some questions which may be summarized in two points: on the one hand, how might we respond to the question of the economic dependence of these professions at the borders of precarious wage-earning and independent work? On the other hand: what sense shall we give to the ever increasing scale of familial financial transfers in resisting the hazards of the cultural sector in Peru and the degradation of employment norms in this same sector in France?
